Famous names now have Web site

Craig Dixon, who launched the Web site in June, says members can go there to post their stories, meet other celeb namesakes, and possibly get picked to endorse products.

“I guess trying to come up with more creative ways to steer marketers, who are looking for such talent, to my Web site is probably one of my top challenges right now," the New York stockbroker and author said.

As of yet, none of Dixon's registered members have mentioned any promotional offers or commercials deals in their blogs. But with thousands of people visiting the site each day, he said there's still a lot of potential.

“If you have always known that your moniker is as valuable as what's-her-name, now here's a way to cash in," he said.

Members can browse through hundreds of celebrity profiles and set up networking events in their city.

Channel chokers

Strengthening the workforce, beefing up marketing activities and setting aside incentives for the channel usually occupy a pretty high place on the list of categories that take precedent. But it would be interesting to know how many brands are allocating funds for the sole purpose of ensuring business partners in each individual market receive suitable training. Vendors might laud the Middle East as a region that warrants their undivided attention, but if there is one area where a high proportion fall persistently short then it's getting resources into markets outside of the UAE. When I say resources, I'm not calling for manufacturers to establish scaled-down offices in each country, but to take the bull by the horns and engage with partners on a personal level. The only way that resellers can truly develop their breadth of skills and technological understanding is if a vendor has solid policies and procedures in place for transferring knowledge.

LETTER: Signs of success in Iraq, but how long will it last?

A crowd of 1,500 showed up without a fight.Attacks have dropped to about one a day, from 25 per day in June."Throughout the country, the level of violence has come down very substantially in the last five months," says Gen. David Petraeus. The surge of 30,000 troops has led to small steps of reconciliation between Sunnis and Shiites. "We’ve been the cops," Army Capt. Erik Peterson says. "We’ve been the local army. We’ve been the ambulance service."

The surge is "working," Petit says. "The question is how long will it work."The existence of a local force called the Guardians has helped. It’s made up mostly of former insurgents. They are a U.S. funded effort to build security.

Killing off 35 million Afghanis is complicated , what do you think the number of poor Pakistanis is ? How much for one artillary round , smart bomb , cruise missle or heavy lift plane ?
